today’s word: lignify

lignify: to turn into wood or to make woodlike through the deposit of lignin into cell walls; to make or become stiffer or stronger; to change the nature, purpose or function of something, as is ‘converting hotels into jails’; an enchanted figure, also known by the name Lorwyn.

After the stroke

After the stroke, his smile disappeared.
Spittled words spewed from a horror-struck
mouth, like tin cans scraping a dirt road.

We understood nothing, as we carried
his lignified body home.
