Malignant Dreams

I dreamt that my hair was silver
and my body thinner—
like a friend’s, who died of colon cancer.

Her hair turned overnight it seemed,
luxuriantly in its thick new growth,
her body lately svelte,
before vanishing.

Some days, I wish to vanish too, how often
I think about my turn to die.
